An alumna of the Physics and Technology Department of USTU-UPI (now the Institute of Physics and Technology of the Ural Federal University) Dr. Kristina Kvashnina has been nominated by the International Union of Crystallography for the position of editor-in-chief of the Journal of Synchrotron Radiation (JSR).

Moving JSR to the Open Access Journal category will allow you not to charge readers a fee for reading publications.

“This is a fundamental decision,” Kvashnina stressed. - Articles should be in the public domain for all scientists in the world, but without prejudice and financial pressure on the authors of the articles. Therefore, we will be actively working on a flexible system for funding publications in JSR."

Kristina Kvashnina is a specialist in the field of theoretical and experimental physics and the founder of high-resolution X-ray spectroscopy on actinides, professor of the Faculty of Chemistry of Moscow State University named after Lomonosov, in 2000 she graduated from the Faculty of Physics and Technology of the Ural State Technical University (now UrFU), in 2006 she received a Ph.D. Physics and Mathematics at Uppsala University in Sweden, while working on a synchrotron radiation source in the United States.

Since 2006, Kristina Kvashnina has been engaged in research work at the European Synchrotron (ESRF) in Grenoble, and is the head of her own research group funded by the Dresden Rossendorf Center (Helmholtz Society). In 2017, she became a Doctor of Physics and Mathematics at the University of Grenoble in France, and in 2019 she became a professor at the Department of Radiochemistry, Faculty of Chemistry, Moscow State University and headed the laboratory of chemical physics of f-elements, funded by the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia under Decree No. 220 (Mega-Grants Program).

The Journal of Synchrotron Radiation has been published since 1994 by the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) and is a leader in the field of synchrotron radiation (part of the Q1 Journal Citation Ranking).
