The 16-storey student building on the site of the ninth dormitory of the Ural Federal University will be built in Yekaterinburg in two years. This was announced today by the rector of the university, Victor Koksharov.

“We are grateful to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation for their support,” noted Koksharov. "The new building will help to solve the problem with the resettlement of students and improve the infrastructure of the university, which over the past ten years has been supplemented by two dormitories, a swimming pool, a modern chemical pharmaceutical center, the country's only university exemplary lean manufacturing factory and other significant facilities."

A building with an area of ​​more than 29 thousand square meters. m and a cost of 1.3 billion rubles. designed for 1328 people. The project of the new dormitory was developed by LSR Group. Together with the adjacent building, opened three years ago, it will form a single complex (including a student canteen and a gym), which in August 2023 will host almost 3,000 World Student Games volunteers.

“This year we are planning to start demolishing the old building located at 8 Fonvizin Street,” says the general director of LSR. Construction - Ural “Evgeny Buzheninov. - After all the necessary preparatory work, we will start building a new student building. This will be the third hostel that LSR Group will build for UrFU."

In 2013, a new student building of UrFU No. 5 for 1000 people was opened in Yekaterinburg, and in 2017 - No. 8, which accommodates 1230 students. In addition, UrFU is the main contender for the legacy of the upcoming Universiade. It is planned that the dormitories of the village for the athletes of the World Student Games will be transferred to the university at the end of the competition.
