'Siege Bread' - the Siege of Leningrad Commemoration

Today, cadets of Military education center of UrFU gave out samples of blockade meal (a piece of bread) with leaflets

The commemoration date consacrating the end of the Siege of Leningrad is celebrated in Russia on January 27. The cadets of the military training center of UrFU held an action "Siege bread" to commemorate the date. Students handed people pieces of bread weighing 125 grams. It was this minimum rate of bread per person per day that was given out per person during the worst days of the siege.

“The main task of action the is to preserve the memory of generations and commemorate the courage and sacrifices of the people who defended the besieged Leningrad,” the organizers noted.

The Siege of Leningrad during the Great Patriotic War lasted 872 days: from September 8, 1941 to January 27, 1944. Almost 700 thousand Leningraders died of hunger, shelling, and hardship.
