The University Will Host the Russian-German Summer School 2022

Victor Koksharov, rector of UrFU, and Mathias Kruse, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ekaterinburg, discussed preparations for the Russian-German Summer School at the university. It will be held in Ekaterinburg in 2022. The theme of the upcoming Summer School will be environmental protection and a new energy partnership between Russia and Germany.

"The Russian-German summer school is a complex international project that has successfully proven itself. This is an excellent opportunity for direct interaction between young specialists of the two countries, for gaining new applied knowledge," Victor Koksharov noted.

The Summer School will be organized by Ural Federal University together with the Technical University of Dortmund. The cooperation between the two universities is aimed at supporting scientific and cultural exchange as well as uniting the partners involved in the project. The program of the School will include communication with the leading experts of the energy industry, practical classes, excursions to enterprises and cultural events.

Mathias Kruse expressed his interest in developing cooperation between UrFU and German organizations in the field of education and international programs. A new stage can be the creation of joint programs and courses, exchange of teachers and scientists as guest professors as well as for joint research. Besides Mathias Kruse told about the conference of graduates from German scholarship programs Deutschland-Alumni that is planned on October 24-25 in Ekaterinburg. The partners agreed on mutual support in organizing and conducting an inter-institutional conference. The event will be held in support of the Year of Germany in Russia 2020-2021.

Ural Federal University cooperates with 30 higher educational institutions of Germany. In the last six years, UrFU scientists have collaborated with their German colleagues to publish over 700 scientific publications in the areas of astronomy, magnetic materials, and machine learning, among other subjects.

The Russian-German Summer School is a joint project of UrFU and the Berlin Technical University TU-Campus EUREF, as well as the Technical University of Dortmund. It has been held since 2015 with the financial support of Russian and German companies. In 2016, it was held in Ekaterinburg, where former German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with students. In 2019, the Summer School was held in Dortmund entitled "Smart Electricity and Engineering".
