Russia celebrates the Day of Heroes of the Fatherland

On December 9, Russia celebrates the Day of Heroes of the Fatherland. This memorable date was established in 2007, but the history of the holiday dates back to the 18th century.

The December date is timed to the event during the reign of Empress Catherine II - in 1769 she established the Order of Saint George the Victorious. It was awarded to soldiers who showed valor, bravery and courage in battle. This holiday is a tribute to the highest state and public respect for those who have been awarded the most honorable state decorations - the titles of Heroes of the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation, the Orders of Glory and St George.

In honor of the memorable date, a solemn meeting was held in front of the main building of UrFU. At the meeting, the students of the UrFU Military Training Center received a solemn speech from Sergey Kurochkin, the university Vice-Rector for International Relations, and representatives of the Veterans Council. The cadets and employees of the university laid flowers and a wreath at the Monument to the Heroes of the Soviet Union - graduates and employees of UrFU.

UrFU is the only university in the country with the largest number of Heroes of the Soviet Union - 16.

Ural Federal University is one of the leading universities in Russia founded in 1920. UrFU is located in Yekaterinburg, the capital of the Ural region, an economic, industrial, scientific and cultural center of Russia. The university is the project office of the Ural Interregional Research and Education Center "Advanced Industrial Technologies and Materials" designed for solving tasks of "Science" National Project.
