Evgeny Kuyvashev: "It is Important to Consolidate the Status of University Campuses"

Evgeny Kuyvashev, the governor of the Sverdlovsk region and a member of the Supervisory Board of Ural Federal University, stated the need to consolidate the status of university campuses at the legislative level. He said this during the seminar-meeting in preparation for the joint meeting of the State Council of Russia and the Presidential Council on Science and Education. The topic of the event was the role of Russian regions in the scientific and technological development of the country.

"Our working group [within the framework of the seminar] deals with the creation of world-class university campuses. The topic is very much discussed, and everyone is very concerned about it. We have a world-class REC in the Sverdlovsk region, which was the result of our joint cooperation with colleagues from the Chelyabinsk and Kurgan regions. And thanks to the fact that we are currently preparing for the 2023 World University Games, the creation of the campus in our region is not just a piece of paper but is happening in real time. We should have a clear definition of what the campus should include, what are the peculiarities of the region. It is a question of legal status, a question of legislative application, which will help us a lot," Evgeny Kuyvashev stated.

The future campus of Ural Federal University in the Sverdlovsk region is already under construction. It will be the Universiade Village in the Novokoltsovsky district. The region will host the World University Games in 2023, after which the constructed facilities will be at the disposal of the university. There will be a complex of student dormitories for 8,5 thousand people, a multifunctional center and medical centers of Ural Federal University. According to the governor, the region counts on federal support to continue the construction on this site and the development of the university campus.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered to create at least 30 university campuses by 2030.
