Ruslan Valiev, a graduate of the Ural Polytechnic Institute (now Ural Federal University), was listed as one of the most cited scientists in 2021 by Stanford University.

In the list of 100,000 researchers, he ranked 751st and was in the top 2% of the most productive researchers. This is one of the highest results among Russian scientists. In the Materials and Applied Physics subfields, the UrFU graduate ranks 8th out of 6032 and 17th out of 5370 scientists, respectively.

Ruslan Valiev is one of the leading specialists in the field of nanomaterials and nanotechnologies in Russia and abroad, the author of more than 800 publications, the owner of more than 35 patents and certificates of authorship for inventions.
