UrFU Is the Leader in Subject Rankings Among Russian Universities

RAEX agency published the results of the new rating

The Ural Federal University became the leader among all Russian universities in the new rating from RAEX agency. The rating is part of the "Three University Missions" ecosystem and analyzes 29 areas of training. UrFU was ranked in 21 subject areas, which is the best result in Russia according to this indicator. UrFU was the best among universities outside Moscow and St. Petersburg.

UrFU ranked in the top three in such areas as new materials, nuclear physics, energy, construction, and chemical technology. It ranked fifth in mathematics, sixth in engineering and robotics, biology, biotechnology and bioengineering, seventh in sociology, eighth in information technology, history and archaeology, and 11th in philology and journalism.

"Our university is traditionally strong in engineering, in particular, in nuclear physics. For example, a significant amount of R&D has been performed on the development of a promising new generation low-pressure reactor with a coolant based on molten salts. Since Russia's nuclear technologies are a very striking and iconic example of domestic high science- and resource-intensive technologies that are in demand abroad, the effective work of the developers of such technologies at UrFU has led to a natural improvement in the position of our university in the "Nuclear Physics" ranking. The university will continue to actively develop cooperation with Rosatom," notes Victor Koksharov, Rector of UrFU.

The rector of UrFU adds that in a number of areas the average Unified State Exam (USE) points of applicants on a budget have increased, as well as the number of achievements in science, including in the interests of industrial partners. It is also important that graduates have no major problems with employment after graduation from UrFU.

"In 2021 we had the first graduation in the specialty "Medical Biochemistry", now the university implements all three specialties of the enlarged group "Fundamental Medicine". Over the last year the quality of scientific publications on natural and exact sciences has significantly improved: the share of publications of the 1st quartile has increased by 2.5 times, and the total share of publications of the 1st and 2nd quartiles was almost 50%. Another important achievement of the last year is the opening of Russia's second carbon polygon on the territory of the Kourovka Astronomical Observatory," emphasizes the rector of UrFU.

The university is actively developing a scientific youth Laboratory of Astrochemical Research. The university develops the Ural Mathematical Center, conducts active scientific work on the topics of this project, works with schoolchildren, conducts scientific events and implements programs of additional professional education.

According to Victor Koksharov, the promotion of UrFU in the ratings for the humanities is due to the development of scientific schools, dynamic growth of publication activity rates, and the successful functioning of the editorial boards that publish internationally recognized scientific journals.

"The Ural Institute of Humanities is rightfully considered to be the Mecca of the Ural. Dissertation councils work here, more than 60 international scientific events are held annually. The inclusion in the global and Russian scientific agenda with the support of developed scientific schools is a guarantee of success for humanities students at UrFU. In particular, advancement in subject rankings in linguistics is due to major international conferences attended by Russian and foreign scientists," says the Head of UrFU.

Victor Koksharov emphasizes that UrFU continues to actively develop the Ural Interregional Research and Education Center "Advanced Manufacturing Technologies and Materials". The key task of the center is implementation of the best scientific developments at the enterprises, as well as training of qualified personnel for these enterprises. The work now acquires special importance in connection with the solution of the problem of import substitution. In addition, the Ural Federal University has high hopes for participation in the Priority 2030 program.
