UniSciOlymp competition was held at the university

The UniSciOlymp research project competition for first-year PhD students was held at Ural Federal University on May 13. The competition is aimed at developing professional foreign language competencies necessary for scientific activities. Ural Federal University PhD students who are preparing to take their PhD examinations, took part in the competition. Among the speakers were PhD students from Egypt, Pakistan, Nigeria, Iraq, Kenya, and Bangladesh.

"All participants showed themselves as first-class specialists in their fields, skilled in seeing the problems and prospects of the development of Russian science. Colorful and interesting presentations, fascinating topics of papers - all this pleased the jury and the audience," noted the organizers.

The jury was formed of linguistic specialists and second- and third-year engineering PhD students who had been trained in the Department of Foreign Languages.

The winners were Mohammed Shakib and Denis Levashov (1st place), Azat Idrisov (2nd place), Mamman Suleiman Onimisi and Denis Balakin (3rd place). The winners and participants of the contest received prizes and souvenirs, and the Rogers Sura Oketch  project was awarded the "Audience Favorite" nomination.

Graduate students of the Department of Foreign Languages, studying in the educational program "Interpretation, Cross-cultural Communication and Cognitive Linguistics", tried their hand as interpreters-synchronists. Professional support was provided by the competition moderators - first-year PhD students.

The organizers plan to hold the contest annually and expand the coverage of languages and participants.

For the second year in a row, the event is held by the Department of Foreign Languages in collaboration with the Office of Research and Teaching Personnel Training, Division of Training Top-Qualification Personnel and the Office of Youth Science Support and Organization of Research Events.

This year's competition is dedicated to the memory of Oleg Skvortsov, Director of the Faculty of Linguistics and Head of the Department of Foreign Languages. On his initiative, the competition was first held last year.
