UrFU professor talks about the role of the region in Russian-African relations

Enterprises of the Ural Region work with foreign partners in trade and economic, military-industrial and scientific-cultural spheres, but the potential of interaction between the Ural region and African Union member states is still not used to the fullest extent. Aleksey Antoshin, Professor at the Department of Oriental Studies, Ural Federal University, talked about this at the round table "Integration Processes: Russia and the African Union", organized by the Russia Today media group.

"The potential for the development of cooperation between the Ural Region and African countries is very significant, but, unfortunately, it is not used to the fullest extent. African countries are not among the leading partners of the Ural federal subjects. Nevertheless, despite the difficulties related to the sanctions regime, there are considerable opportunities for increasing cooperation in this sphere," emphasized Aleksey Antoshin.

The expert noted that the Ural enterprises are already cooperating with foreign partners from Algeria, South Africa and Egypt. However, there are countries with which cooperation is not established or is established insufficiently, despite the availability of opportunities and reserves of regional industrial complexes. There are such reserves in the areas of defense, energy, medicine, and food, Antoshin added.
