Victor Koksharov: "Universities Will Provide Technological Independence of Territories"

UrFU Rector spoke at the IV Forum of the Association of Russian and Belarusian Universities

Higher education institutions of Russia and Belarus are able to provide technological independence of enterprises, effectively solve the problems of import substitution and become a powerful engine for the development of territories. This was stated the other day in Grodno by Victor Koksharov, Rector of the Ural Federal University, at the IV Forum of the Association of Universities of Russia and Belarus.

"Universities in our countries are able to play a key role in the technological development of enterprises and the training of qualified personnel for them. Together, this will make it possible to properly respond to the challenges that our countries are facing today. First of all it concerns reduction of dependence on foreign technologies and suppliers of components. The economies of Russia and Belarus are in urgent need of scientific developments of our scientists and qualified personnel. In the end it will protect the enterprises in the current conditions, allow them to develop and in general increase the competitiveness of the economy," noted Koksharov.

Victor Koksharov emphasized that UrFU has a great experience of successful cooperation with the industrial sector. In particular, the Ural Interregional Research and Education Center "Advanced Manufacturing Technologies and Materials" was created several years ago on the university's initiative to maximize its scientific and educational potential. Its key task is to create world-class technologies and products. We are talking about applied scientific developments, which can be implemented at enterprises in the shortest possible time, making them more sustainable and competitive.

"The university has serious competences of interaction with industrial partners, and such work contributes to solving the problem of import substitution, which is so urgent today. We are ready to provide industrial partners in Belarus with the implementation of advanced scientific developments in the shortest possible time and to carry out such work at the highest level. We are ready for constructive, mutually beneficial cooperation on the implementation of new projects. It is also very important that Belarusian students can be involved in projects of this level during their studies, which will have the best effect on their training and will add important practical skills in solving problems in real production to their theoretical knowledge," said the Head of the UrFU.

The IV Forum of the Association of Universities of Russia and Belarus gathered together representatives of more than 80 universities of the allied countries. This year it is held in a full-time distance format. The main topics for discussion were the integration of the scientific potential of Belarusian and Russian universities, implementation of joint scientific and technical projects and programs, and academic cooperation. Representatives of more than 30 Belarusian and more than 50 Russian universities are taking part in the event.
