University Associate Professor Becomes Curator of Exhibition at the Faberge Museum

Lyudmila Budrina has been studying the art of stonecutting for many years

At the Fabergé Museum in St. Petersburg, an exhibition of works by contemporary Ural stone-cutters, Russian Epic in Stone, opened. The project was prepared by the Shmotev Family Foundation in partnership with the Link of Times Cultural and Historical Foundation and the Fabergé Museum.

The exhibition was curated by Lyudmila Budrina, Associate Professor of Department of Art History and Museum Studies at Ural Federal University, recognized expert in history of stone-cutting art, author of more than 200 publications, including monographs and articles in leading reviewed journals on history of stone-cutting in different art centers of Russia and Europe, curator of publishing and exhibition projects.

"The plots that inspire stone-cutting masters today are related to Russian history and legends, embodied in bylinas and fairy tales. The heroes of the stone-cutting compositions are Russian knyaz and bogatyrs, characters from fairy tales and folk types. Taken together, they tell about traditional Russian culture and its simple and eternal values: kindness and beauty, courage and love," noted in the museum.

The exhibition at the Fabergé Museum will be open until September 29, and in September visitors will find a rich educational program dedicated to the history of the Ural and Russian stone art in a pan-European context.
