More Than Half of UIREC Projects Aimed at Import Substitution

Developments are used in the energy, oil and gas and transport sectors

Out of 51 technological projects implemented at the Ural Interregional Research and Education Center, more than 40 are aimed at import substitution. Technologies and products of the participating companies are successfully used in the energy, oil and gas and transport sectors. They take their rightful place in the registers of import-substituting products of the Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, and Kurgan Regions. Thus, only in the Sverdlovsk region 25 developments of the Research and Education Center participants are included in the number of import-substituting.

This was told yesterday by the UIREC Director of Development Igor Manzhurov at a press conference in TASS, dedicated to the implementation of transport projects and plans to work until the end of 2022.

"The developments of our scientists and researchers have an important place in the regional registers of import substitution, which shows the importance of the projects of the Research and Education Center. For example, we have a number of strong projects in the field of energy. For instance, we are developing various controllers and automation systems for control elements in the energy and oil and gas sectors. When such foreign partners as Siemens and Schneider left, our industrial partner, the Ekaterinburg company Prosoft-Systems, implemented the scientific developments of UrFU researchers, and now the entire control system of complex production devices has been fully replaced and successfully operates," explains Igor Manzhurov.

Ural Interregional Research and Education Center is actively working on the implementation of other transportation projects. For example, South Ural State University specialists have developed an "Arctic bus" for safe passenger transportation in the Far North. Sverdlovsk Region produces high-speed rolling stock and urban transport, and specialists from Kurgan implemented the project of Russian all-terrain vehicle "Burlak".

"The rovers are already in use. However, to work with the new devices, there is a need for new competencies. If previously we could attract specialists from outside, on foreign outsourcing, now the situation is such that we have to rely only on ourselves. Just UIREC is the place where scientific, research and production capacities are combined that allows us to train highly qualified specialists on our own," Manzhurov adds.
