Minister of Energy of Mongolia Supports University Initiatives

At the meeting with the rector it was possible to discuss aspects of education and science

Experts from the Ural Federal University are ready to offer the development of an advance design and zoning in the territory of Mongolia for small nuclear thermal power plants (40-100 MW).

The proposal was announced by Victor Koksharov, Rector of the UrFU, at a meeting with Battogtokh Chojilsuren, Minister of Energy of Mongolia and Chairman of the Mongolian Alumni Association.

The main topic of discussion was the training of personnel for the energy complex enterprises of Mongolia in the Postgraduate, Master's and Bachelor's degree programs at Ural Federal University in the field of design and operation of nuclear power plants, energy complexes and systems based on renewable energy sources, energy complexes and systems.

"For colleagues from Mongolia it is also relevant to train specialists for maintenance and operation of gas pipelines. Among scientific projects, the development of a hybrid thermo-photovoltaic unit with a capacity of 200-2000 W for individual consumers and organization of their production in Mongolia also remains in our focus," notes Koksharov.

They have also discussed the development of the Alumni Association and support for students: at the initiative of Chojilsuren, a trust fund "Mongolia" was established in the University Endowment Fund in 2019. The endowment fund will be used for scholarships for talented undergraduate and graduate students of Ural Federal University from Mongolia.

"We have many graduates in Mongolia who graduated from UPI and UrSU, and many now occupy leading positions in the country. We are proud that we studied at these very universities, which have now been merged into one, and we are grateful that our student years were spent in Russia. We will do our best to have Mongolian students studying at our alma mater, and we intend to support the university in every way we can," noted Battogtokh Chojilsuren.

Earlier, a delegation from the UrFU, headed by Victor Koksharov, held negotiations with the management of CHPP-4, the largest coal-fired power plant in the country. At the meeting they discussed the application of the university scientists' developments in the technological processes of the plant.

Battogtokh Chojilsuren is a graduate of the UPI Radio Department (now the Institute of Radioelectronics and Information Technologies of UrFU). He also served as deputy chief of staff to the President of Mongolia and was a deputy of the State Great Khural.
