Students Received Grants from the Russian Heritage Foundation Abroad

The Ural Federal University summed up the results of the Reopening the History student contest. Projects were presented at the VII Academic Fundraising Forum.

Seven undergraduate and graduate students of UrFU presented their popular science essays on the history of Russian emigration in the early 20th century and the contribution of compatriots to the development of world history, culture, and science. The contest was held by the Russian Heritage Foundation Abroad in cooperation with Ural Federal University.

"The contribution made to world progress by our compatriots who left Russia in the early twentieth century is endless and still poorly studied. It is important to involve young people in research on this topic, so that contemporaries can remember and be proud of their history. I am pleased to announce that the first competition for students has taken place. The papers presented at the full-time defenses were distinguished by their thoughtfulness, creative approach and, most importantly, sincere interest of the students to continue studying the heroes of their research, working with archives and sharing their knowledge", noted Elena Chernyshkova, Head of the Russian Heritage Abroad Foundation.

The competition opens the Foundation's series of initiatives to promote the study of the heritage of the Russian abroad among young people, which will continue early next year with the launch of a federal grant competition for undergraduate, graduate and young researchers to support research.

According to the results, the first place was given to the project "Artist-critic Ivan Puni on the essence of art at the beginning of the century (on the example of the Berlin period brochure "Modern Painting")" by Aleksandra Petkau, a Bachelor's student. Aleksandra received a cash prize of 30,000 rubles and a trip to Moscow to get acquainted with the resources of the Russian Abroad Foundation and the House of Russian Abroad named after A. Solzhenitsyn.

The second place was taken by the projects "The Artistic Matrix of Novelistics by Irina Odoevtseva - the novel Angel of Death" by Yulia Borodulina, a Master's student, and "The First Russian Exhibition of Arts and Crafts at the Whitechapel Gallery in 1921: History, Reaction of Contemporaries" by Sophia Kuritsyna, a Master's student. Yulia and Sophia received a monetary prize of 20 thousand rubles.
