UrFU Engineering Technologies Are of Interest to Kazakhstan

The plan for the work in the field of hydrogen energy and materials science is outlined

Researchers from the Ural Federal University and colleagues from Kazakhstan are launching pilot projects for promising collaborative research in engineering fields. The presentation of two youth research teams took place at the National Center on Complex Processing of Mineral Raw Material in Almaty.

"The similar mineral resource base, similar technologies and, consequently, the same scientific tasks unite the technologists of Russian and Kazakh companies. I believe that this is the key to our success with our colleagues from the National Academy of Natural Sciences of Kazakhstan," said Denis Rogozhnikov, Professor at the Ural Federal University and Head of the Youth Laboratory for the Recycling of Man-Made Waste.

Presentations of the technology made by Rogozhnikov and Pavel Pershin, Head of the Research Institute of Hydrogen Energy of the Ural Federal University, were of great interest to the Kazakh scientists. The event ended with the signing of the implementation plan. The document was signed by Victor Koksharov, the Rector of the Ural Federal University, and Nurtai Abykayev, the President of the Academy.

The Laboratory of Advanced Technologies for Complex Processing of Mineral and Anthropogenic Raw Materials of Nonferrous and Ferrous Metals at the Ural Federal University has a large number of young employees. About 90 percent of the Laboratory's employees are under 39 years of age. The laboratory is equipped for selective extraction of valuable components and precipitation of toxic compounds. This allows it to cooperate with leading Russian and foreign companies.

On September 1 last year the Research Institute of Hydrogen Energy was established at the Ural Federal University under the scientific direction of Professor Yury Zaikov. The proportion of young scientists under the age of 39 is over 85 percent. The main partner is the Institute of High Temperature Electrochemistry of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

There are 1,253 students from Kazakhstan studying at the Ural Federal University. The university cooperates with 34 universities and scientific organizations of the republic. The local branch of the Alumni Association of UPI, UrSU and UrFU, founded in 2014, is headed by Nurtai Abykayev, President of the National Academy of Natural Sciences of Kazakhstan, a graduate of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Ural Polytechnic Institute.
