Three employees of the Ural Federal University received medals and awards of the Russian Academy of Sciences for young scientists and students for the year 2021. The awards were received by Mikhail Varaksin, Director of the Institute of Chemical Engineering, Timofey Moseyev, Associate Professor, and Alexey Akulov, Assistant Professor. The awards were presented by Gennady Krasnikov, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The Ural Federal University researchers presented a series of studies "Development of direct C-H functionalization in azaheterocyclic systems as a highly effective tool for creating promising materials for molecular electronics and medicinal chemistry".

The results of the conducted work are presented as a cycle of 24 scientific publications in the leading journals indexed by the databases Scopus and Web of Science (quartiles Q1 and Q2). The results were also presented at Russian and international conferences on organic and medicinal chemistry and organic materials science. In total, the researchers presented more than 50 oral and poster reports.

A total of 1,331 works in the form of cycles of scientific research were submitted to the contest. The expert commissions of the Russian Academy of Sciences recommended awarding medals to 71 young scientists and students of various universities.
