On March 10-12 the UrFU hockey team played a play-off series with the Tyumen team "Gazovik". They were fighting for the chance to take part in the "Final Eight" championship of the Student Hockey League, which will be held in Sochi at the beginning of April. The series lasted until two victories. In the third game, the UrFU hockey players won in a shoot-out.

Thanks to a double from Alexander Khomutinin, the Ural Federal University hockey team won the first game with a score of 5-4. The second game went down to the wire, but in overtime the UrFU team lost with a score of 6-7. The game was won in a penalties shoot-out. In the quarter-finals, the team will play against hockey players from the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.
