UrFU Became the Operator of the International Festival of University Sports Volunteer Program

The university will select and train 3,500 volunteers

The Ural Federal University has been chosen as the main operator of the volunteer program of the International University Sports Festival. The festival will be held in Ekaterinburg from 19 to 31 of August. The university will be in charge of the training of recruitment staff, the selection of volunteers and their further promotion. Earlier, the Competition Directorate together with UrFU opened a volunteer center. The center provides an opportunity for potential festival volunteers to apply and go through an interview process.

"The Ural Federal University has a rich experience in organizing volunteer activities. Because of the contribution of major events to the development of the Sverdlovsk Region and the opportunity for young people to acquire many useful skills, we pay a lot of attention to the development of the volunteer movement and are proud of our center "Volunteers of the Urals". The center's staff has trained volunteers many times for the highest level events in the city and the whole country. We are honored to demonstrate these skills once again as the main operator of the MFUS volunteer program. Training 3,500 people is an incredible task that we and our students are enthusiastically engaged in," said Victor Koksharov, Rector of the UrFU.

The operator of the volunteer program was selected by the Directorate of the International University Sports Festival as a result of an open competition. The application of the UrFU fulfilled all the necessary requirements and standards.

"The Ural Federal University is our reliable partner. It helps us with such an important task as selecting and training future festival volunteers. Such a big international event is impossible without good assistance. The volunteer movement at the university is actively developing. We are sure that many local students will contribute to the upcoming unique event," said Alexander Chernov, Head of the Festival Directorate.

The International University Sports Festival with the participation of student teams from the BRICS countries, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries is a large-scale celebration of youth and sports, combining modern innovative approaches and Russia's extensive experience in hosting major international sports events.

There will be competitions in 14 sports: badminton, basketball 3×3, boxing, volleyball, judo, mini-football, table tennis, swimming, diving, sambo, wrestling, tennis, taekwondo and rhythmic gymnastics. There will be a total of 193 sets of medals and more than 240 universities from 94 countries will participate in the event. The amount of athletes will reach 3400 people.
