University Scientists' Competences Allow More Effective Extraction of Valuable Metals from Waste

Scientists of the Ural Federal University offered the representatives of the Kyrgyzaltyn company to extract valuable metals from industrial waste. Employees of the Laboratory of Advanced Technologies for Complex Processing of Mineral and Technogenic Raw Materials of Nonferrous and Ferrous Metals of the Ural Federal University proposed a number of solutions to the management of Kyrgyzaltyn. They refer to the possibility of joint research and development on the problems of processing of accumulated technogenic waste, sludge deposits, refractory ore raw materials of non-ferrous and precious metals.

According to Denis Rogozhnikov, Head of the Laboratory, during the negotiations they managed to outline several promising directions for the development of new hydrometallurgical technologies for the extraction of valuable metals from natural and anthropogenic raw materials. In particular, we are talking about atmospheric leaching with extraction of metals and production of finished products. Projects on utilization of highly toxic components are also discussed, which will significantly reduce the negative impact on the environment of the Kyrgyz Republic.

"We made several suggestions about the possibility of joint R&D. We also talked about our own experience in this direction at similar facilities in the Urals (UMMC JSC enterprises), Kazakhstan (Kazakhmys LLP), Uzbekistan (NMMC JSC), for which these technological solutions have already been developed," Rogozhnikov said.

The talks took place during the visit to the Ural Federal University of the representative delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic headed by Medetbek Bukuev, Advisor to the President of the Republic. The delegation also included Ruslan Biybosunov, Consul General of the Kyrgyz Republic in Ekaterinburg, Kubatbek Abdraimov, Chairman of the Board of Kyrgyzaltyn OJSC, Sagynbek Abdrakhmanov, Director of BR Zoloto, and several other well-known politicians and leaders of the Republic. The guests met with the management of the university, its students and visited several enterprises.
