10 University Students Won the Artificial Intelligence Project Contest

The results of the Artificial Intelligence project competition for undergraduate and graduate students of the UrFU Engineering School of Information Technologies, Telecommunications and Control Systems have been summarized. Among the winners there are five undergraduate students, three graduate students and two postgraduate students. They will receive scholarships in the amount of up to 50 thousand rubles per month.

"With my research, I am trying to improve the quality of the evaluation of rocks in a quarry for their asbestos content. I am using the latest developments in computer vision. The work is still ongoing. I am using a dataset created by Mikhail Ronkin. In his article, he proposed a basic solution to the problem of segmenting asbestos in an image. I took it as a basis and am trying to improve the results he got," said Vitaly Skovoroda, one of the winners of the contest.

The research topics of the students are focused on the problems of industrial computer vision systems, disease diagnosis systems (physician assistance), and other current problems that require the use of modern advances in the field of AI.

"In my project, I am continuing the work I started in graduate school. The main idea is to visualize the eye-tracking data, followed by evaluation and prediction of the results using machine learning methods. The work on the project is in an active phase of discussion and development. My role is in the technical component of the implementation, which I discuss with my supervisor Anton Dolganov. The data for the research is provided by the employees of the medical organization. We also discuss with them things related to their field of activity and vision of the final product," said Sergey Chistyakov, a contest participant.

The purpose of the competition is to support young scientists who have scientific achievements and research on problems of artificial intelligence. It is also in the interest of the partner companies of the Engineering School of Information Technologies, Telecommunications and Control Systems.

The award ceremony will take place on April 17 at 17:00 at 32 Mira Street (third floor foyer).
