Students of the UrFU Department of International Relations visited the Beloyarsk Nuclear Power Plant. The excursion is one of the events connected with the new bachelor's program "International Cooperation in Sustainable Development and Peaceful Use of Atomic Energy", which will be launched in the next academic year.

"In September, the Department of International Relations will have a new educational path dealing with the peaceful atom and sustainable development. As part of the opening of the new course, we took students to the BNPP (Beloyarsk Nuclear Power Plant)," says Anton Kochnev, Head of the UrFU International Relations and World Politics bachelor's program. - I have visited BNPP several times, including the restricted area. I think it's very important to dispel myths about nuclear energy among students, as well as to give them an opportunity to see and evaluate the plant's high safety level".

A representative of the BNPP told the students about the history of the plant and about the operation of unit No. 4. The students also got acquainted with the principles of operating a fast neutron reactor and the prospects for closing the nuclear fuel cycle. A separate part of the meeting focused on security matters. The students had a look at the machine room and the central control room of the NPP and asked questions about the plant's operation, Rosatom's national and international projects, and the peculiarities of work in the nuclear industry.

"Such visits are an important contribution to public awareness and the formation of scientific understanding of nuclear power and the role of peaceful nuclear technologies in sustainable development. It is also a great opportunity for students to look inside the nuclear infrastructure, some aspects of which we discuss during the course, and to put their questions directly to the experts and employees of the plant," says Ekaterina Lapanovich, Curator of the new bachelor's program.
