The Ural Federal University strengthens its cooperation with higher education institutions in the People's Republic of China. This time the focus is on the northeast of China. Rector Victor Koksharov held negotiations with his colleagues from the Harbin Institute of Technology and the Harbin University of Science and Technology.

"The "turn to the East" outlined last year continues with real work. We have renewed and extended agreements with leading Chinese universities. For example, interaction with the Harbin Institute of Technology began back in the days of the Ural Polytechnic Institute and involves scientific cooperation and academic exchanges. We also have a number of joint projects with the Harbin University of Science and Technology," Koksharov pointed out.

Victor Koksharov visited Harbin during the official visit of the delegation of the Sverdlovsk Region headed by the Deputy Governor Vasily Kozlov. Then the rector went to Henan Province, where the Luoyang-Ural International University for 10,000 students is to be opened.

The creation of the joint university is planned in several stages. In the first stage it is planned to create five or six Bachelor's programs with an annual enrollment of up to 500 students. In the second stage it is planned to open another 20 Bachelor's programs and five to seven Master's programs with an annual enrollment of up to 2 thousand people.

There are 1677 Chinese students studying at the Ural Federal University. The university cooperates with 46 higher education institutions and scientific organizations of China. There is a Confucius Institute at the university. The university is a member of the Association of Technical Universities of Russia and China, SCO and BRICS network universities.

The university has five dual degree programs with the North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power. Another four are with Hainan College of Economics and Business. In addition, there is a network program "Foreign Regional Studies" with Heilongjiang University, as well as 2+2 programs at the undergraduate level with simultaneous study of Russian in the first two years with Dalian University.
