Today's popular artificial intelligence chatbot from an American company - ChatGPT - is known to be nothing more than a trained language model. It became famous in Russia when it partially wrote a thesis for a student and no one noticed the trick. This situation caused a lot of discussion. Some suggested to ban ChatGPT because it is impossible to control it. However, there are only more neural network analogues, including the Russian ones.

"Students should understand that if a neural network writes the explanation for your diploma and you bring in someone else's work, you are actually replacing yourself as a future specialist with the technology. You have to develop your own neural connections. It is different when such bots serve as assistants. For example, it is possible to use AI to increase the productivity of students while increasing the number and complexity of their tasks," says Ilya Obabkov, Director of the UrFU Engineering School of Information Technologies, Telecommunications and Control Systems.

As a result, they will learn to control the tools that will eventually replace humans in some types of work. This will help future specialists adapt to the new technological world. According to Obabkov, the task-setting function is still performed by a human, while the neural network generates ideas and gives answers. These answers are not always correct and still need to be finalized. This helps students understand the possibilities and limitations of modern technology.

Two years ago, scientists at the Ural Federal University developed a career guidance service that recommends a course of study at a university based on the analysis of a social network profile and a test. As the researchers explain, the machine learning algorithm finds explicit and implicit patterns, peculiarities of life values that are common to different groups of students within their major, and then selects a relevant field of study for the applicant.

"In other words, it is a predictive analytics system. By the way, we also created a service to assess student behavior in online courses. For example, we tried to predict how a student would do on a test or exam. If there were difficulties, we could help them prepare better. We already have the first measurement results from this system, which is now in pilot operation," says Ilya Obabkov.
