The new compounds have already shown good results in the fields

The complex organomineral fertilizer "Organomin" is patented. The fertilizer was developed within the Ural Interregional Research and Education Center "Advanced Production Technologies and Materials" (UIREC). It will open up new opportunities for large-scale application of the fertilizer and will contribute to improving food security in Russia. The project is being implemented within the framework of the cooperation agreement between Nika-Petrotec and the Ural Federal University.

"The obtained patent is important because it helps to dispose of waste from poultry farms and livestock complexes. The patent allows you to protect the intellectual right to the invention and use it with peace of mind. In our case, it is a technology for decontaminating livestock or poultry waste and at the same time obtaining an organomineral complex fertilizer that will be in demand by farmers," says Konstantin Lukyashin, technical expert at Nika-Petrotec.

According to Konstantin Lukyashin, the patent will be the basis for the creation of a new production facility after its effectiveness is proven not only in theory, but also in practice. UrFU botanists have tested the patent for effectiveness. In the summer of 2022 they planted four variants of control samples of plants (oats and amaranth) in the UrFU Botanical Garden: without fertilizer, with two types of new fertilizer, and with the most common fertilizer.

"Last year's research showed that with the new fertilizer, the number of grains in the inflorescence increased by 19.7 percent. There was also a 17 percent increase in the number of generative shoots. These are good indicators for the fertilizer, given that rainfall in July and August 2022 was below the annual average of 88 percent and 69 percent, respectively. The lack of rainfall in July and August could have significantly affected the yield," says Anna Betekhtina, a Senior Researcher at the Laboratory of Restoration Ecology at the Ural Federal University.

This year, research will continue to provide additional data on fertilizer effectiveness. Botanists will test the effect of intensive irrigation on the yield of the same crops: oats and blood amaranth (Amaranthus cruentus).

The fertilizer consists of organic (carbon), magnesium, nitrogen, sulfur, and auxiliary potassium and phosphorus. It is a safe fertilizer for soil and plants.

"The organic-mineral fertilizer we use contains all the positive properties of both organic and mineral components. It is also important that "Organomin" can be useful for other crops. It is only necessary to conduct research and choose the optimal concentrations for its application to the soil, taking into account, of course, not only the condition of the soil, but also the region of the crop, closed or open soil," says Konstantin Lukyashin.

Lukyashin is confident about the prospects of mass introduction of "Organomin", since the raw material base and the technology under the obtained patent are completely domestic. This raw material base is sufficiently available in the country.

"On average, just one poultry farm, and there are more than 500 in the country, produces about 100 tons of droppings per day (or more than 18 million tons of manure per year from all poultry farms), which needs to be used somehow. In our case, we are solving two problems at once: we are utilizing poultry farm waste and creating a safe complex organomineral fertilizer. Only the mass introduction of organomineral fertilizer will make it affordable for all farmers of the country from the economic point of view, because it can be produced in very large quantities," said Konstantin Lukyashin.
