A ‘Thai room’ to be opened at UrFU

Viktor Koksharov, rector of Ural University, met with the Ambasasador of Thailand in Russia, Dr. Itti Ditbanchong.

A ‘Thai Room’ might be established at UrFU after the meeting of Viktor Koksharov, rector of Ural University, and  the Ambasasador of Thailand in Russia, Dr. Itti Ditbanchong.  

The ambassador visited Ekaterinburg to open the martial arts tournament, which is held within the ‘Vesna UPI’ student festival; Thai boxing is included in the program of tournament. As Dr. Ditbanchong  said, he was impressed with both Ural University – ‘a true city within a city’ – and the meeting with the students, who are training in Thai boxing. The ambassador also praised the research potential of UrFU, and expressed his hope for new Thai-Russian collaboration project in sphere of education and culture with the participation of the university. Viktor Koksharov stressed that there are 10 Thai students at UrFU currently and that there is a possibility to offer some scholarship from the Russian budget to support the new Thai students.

Dr. Ditbanchong mentioned that to train in Thai boxing effectively one ought to learn the history andculture of Thailand, and offered to establish a ‘Thau room’ at UrFU, as this was already created in Sain-Petersburg University. Viktor Koksharov stated that such room would, possibly, be opened at UrFU Institute of Physical Education, Sport and Youth Policy. The ambassador presented university a cast statuette of two fighting sportsmen, which will decorate the new room.
