Ekaterinburg application for ACM-ICPC World Finals was presented in Warsaw

On May, 13th, Ekaterinburg was presented as a city candidate for ACM-ICPC World Finals-2016 to the ICPC Board. The meeting was held in Warsaw, where on May, 14 the ACM-ICPC World Finals-2012 will start.

A special video, which stated the formula of successful programming contest to be held in Ekaterinburg, was demonstrated by the UrFU delegation. The video emphasizes the fact that Russia is on the rise today, while Ekaterinburg has the experience necessary to host such an event, and Ural University is a leading center of IT education and research.  

- The video was praised highly, - says Victor Koksharov, Rector of Ural University. – The board was so interested that its members decided to visit our city this September and familiarize themselves with our possibilities more closely. I was talking to William Poucher, the head of the board, and he agreed to visit Ural in autumn. What regards the ACM-ICPC World Finals in Ekaterinburg, this decision might be taken later. Probably, Ekaterinburg will host World Finals in 2017. Anyway, our chances are high, and the World Finals coming to Ekaterinburg is possible.  

The Ural delegation included Minister of IT and Communication of Sverdlovsk Region Irina Bogdanovich, Rector of Ural University Viktor Koksharov, First Vice-Rector Dmitry Bugrov, executive director of Ural IT cluster Maxim Serebrov, and the representative of the Ministry of External Economic Cinnections Alexey Rybakov.  

- Viktor Koksharov’s speech was several time interrupted with the sincere applause of the ICPC board members, - says Dmitry Bugrov. – After the presentation, there were many questions regarding the quality of infrastructure in Ekaterinburg: the capacity of airport, the international airlines connections, hotel capacities, etc. The high level of IT training UrFU teams was not questioned, as our teams are demonstrating good results in different competitions. It’s the result of work of their teachers and tutors, including the director of Department of Mathematics, Mechanics and Computer Science, Magaz Asanov.  

As Dmitry Bugrov read the greetings from Magaz Asanov, William poucher in response wished the UrFU team to win golden medal in ACM-ICPC World Finals, which will start in Warsaw on Monday, 14th. UrFU is represented in Warsaw by the team of Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, Egor Schelkonogov, Olga Soboleva and Oleg Dolgorukov.
