A Chinese delegation from Northeast Normal University visited the UrFU and learned more about its life and history

On June 20, a Chinese delegation from the Northeast Normal University visited the Ural Federal University. Representatives of the UrFU International Office conducted a tour of the main academic building and talked about life and studies at the university. The Chinese colleagues also visited the museum of the Ural Federal University where they got acquainted with the history of the university since its foundation.

The Ural Federal University cooperates with the Northeast Normal University in the sphere of academic mobility. Thus, in 2014 within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization University an agreement was signed between the two universities on the joint educational master's program "Regional Studies". 

During the visit, the delegation visited laboratories and met with representatives of the Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. The meeting was attended by Rogozhin Sergey, Head of Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Shur Vladimir, Doctor of Science and Head of Ural Multiple Access Center 'Modern Nanotechnologies", Ostroushko Alexander, Head of Unit, Section of Chemical Material Science, Sosnovskikh Vyacheslav, Head of Department of Organic Chemistry and High Molecular Compounds, and Babushkin Alexey, Head of UrFU School of Sciences. The delegation and university representatives discussed the possibility of developing joint research projects and creating a joint center for physics and chemistry. It is planned to sign agreements between the universities. 

As part of the visit the Chinese delegation also visited the Ural Institute of Humanities where they met with representatives of the Institute and the Director of the Confucius Institute, Lozovskaya Ksenia and with Burnasov Alexander, Associate Professor, Department of Theory and History of International Relations.

Confucius Institutes are institutions of Chinese language and culture studies established by the Chinese Ministry of Education in cooperation with foreign educational institutions in order to teach Chinese language and culture in foreign countries. In 2019, the Confucius Institute of UrFU was recognized as one of the best in the world. 

Two roadmaps have been agreed with the representatives of the Northeast Normal University and the Ural Federal University. The first one includes the creation of a School of Politics and Law, where joint research is conducted, and a research center for comparative studies of Russian and Chinese politics. The parties also discussed the possibility of joint educational programs in the fields of International Relations, Russian Studies, Foreign Regional Studies, and Oriental Studies. They also considered the prospect of joint publications, as well as the possibility of lectures by Russian scholars in Russian with translation at the Northeast Normal University in both online and offline form. 

The second roadmap includes the plan to create a School of Philology. During the meeting the importance and readiness of improving the qualifications of students and teachers in the Chinese language and publishing a Chinese textbook in Russia together with the UrFU scientists were noted. The creation and implementation of summer courses for teaching Chinese, as well as joint programs in such areas as Philology, Linguistics and Oriental Studies.

Currently, about 1,700 Chinese students are studying at the university. The Ural Federal University is ready to develop further cooperation with China and our partners and, of course, once again awaits the arrival of guests and applicants!
