Online Screening of the Film About the Meteorite Expedition to Antarctica Was Held

On November 28 the online screening of the documentary film about the Antarctic expedition "Antarctica. Message from Space" took place. The film was produced by the "Kislorod" studio.

To remind, the Russian Antarctic meteorite expedition started in November 2021. The goal was to conduct scientific work and search for unexplored cosmic matter. Members of the expedition, risking their lives, went in search of a "message from space". The search was conducted in the area of the Humboldt Mountains, where no man has ever set foot.

The meteorite expedition was organized by the Ural Federal University together with the Kazan Federal University and a businessman Andrei Nazarov with the support of the Russian Geographical Society, Roscosmos and the Kant sports store.

"Antarctica is a unique place to search for meteorites. More than 70% of all meteorites found on Earth have been found in Antarctica. Even more important is the value factor of the meteoritic substance - the age of a number of meteorites found there is greater than the age of the Earth, they are elements of those protoplanets that were organized at the dawn of our galaxy... The first meteorite was found in Antarctica in the 60's in the area of Lazarevskoye station by Soviet geologists," said Alexander Pastukhovich, head of the search team of the Ural Federal University meteorite expedition.

The public talk was also attended by Vitaly Lazo, mountain guide and test cosmonaut, Sergey Kud-Sverchkov, Hero of Russia, popularizer of the development of the national space program.

That was already the second expedition to Antarctica organized with the active participation of UrFU. The first one took place in 2015-2016.
