The Olympic Fire was set to the cauldron on the UrFU square

The Famous Russian runner, the bronze winner of Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, Olga Kotlyarova brought to UrFU square the symbol of The Olympic Games and set the fire to the Olympic cauldron.This was the final part of the torch relay in Russia. The big celebration took place on UrFU square, there were several thousands of spectators. The Governor of Sverdlovsk region Evgeny Kuyvashev, representatives of the organizing committee and partners of Winter Olympic Games gave their speeches about such an important event.

The torch relay will stay in the memory of many spectators as a romantic surprise: in the end of his distance Leonid Skobelin, the head of UrFU Partner Relationship Office, proposed his girlfriend, Nadezhda.  Nadezhda accepted his proposal.

Nine university representatives participated in the torch relay which took place in Nizhny Tagil, Ekaterinburg and Kamensk-Uralsky. They are students, lecturers and graduates of the university, among them: the Rector Viktor Koksharov, the Minister of Physical Culture and Sport of Sverdlovsk Region and UrFU professor Leonid Rapoport, the head of municipal department of physical culture, sport and tourism development and UrFU professior Ludmila Fitina.
