University Professors Presented a System of Psychophysiological Diagnostics for Athletes

The UrFU campus in Novokoltsovskiy gathered for the first time the participants of the XIII All-Russian Congress with international participation "Medicine for Sports 2024". The speakers included seven professors from the Institute of Physical Education, Sports and Youth Policy of the university.

Anton Ezhov, a professor of the Institute of Physical Culture, Sports and Youth Policy, presented a unique system of neuromuscular warm-up for diagnostics and activation of athletes' condition. The methodology was called "Co-Reaction" and was developed by UrFU staff together with the innovation department of the Spartakovets Academy.

The testing checks athletes' and referees' hand-eye coordination, nervous system strength, and temperament type. The data obtained helps to understand how psychologically stable a person is in stressful situations, which is extremely important for athletes and judges. The creators explain that the parameters of psychological stability can be coached through various exercises, which will help return to the highest performance state.

"We have developed a system of psychophysiological diagnostics, which was originally intended to be a kind of warm-up for athletes. It helps turn on the brain, and from the very first seconds of a game, an athlete can perceive a high-intensity load," explains Anton Ezhov.

Initially, the system was tested on hockey and soccer players. When the researchers analyzed the results obtained, they were offered to participate in training camps of the KHL referee corps. The system is also actively used for training athletes with disabilities. Anton Ezhov emphasizes that it has great potential as anyone can adopt the methodology.

The congress for the first time emphasized adaptive sports, in which people with disabilities take part. The organizers paid close attention to medical and sports support for athletes with disabilities.

"It was the first time that specialists in this field gathered and came to our university to hold master classes and plenary sessions, to get acquainted with our scientific developments and those of our colleagues. As the head of the adaptive physical education program, I am very happy that all my students also actively participated in the conference, experienced everything on their own. The guys are very inquisitive and want to get everything out of their studies to become high-class specialists," says Nina Serova, Head of the Department of Service and Recreational Technologies of Institute of Physical Culture, Sports and Youth Policy.

We would like to add that students organized excursions for the participants around the campus, to the new building of the UrFU medical unit and to the Aquatics Palace.

In addition, the congress included an exhibition showcasing the latest global and domestic developments in medical equipment, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries.

"The Congress was held in Ekaterinburg for the first time thanks to the merits of our teaching staff. It is them, participating in various field conferences, who managed to prove themselves and attract the attention of the event organizers," Nina Serova emphasizes.

In total, more than 600 people took part in the congress, 350 of them in person.
