The number of Ural Federal University students involved in project-based learning has increased tenfold over the past five years. Valentina Ovchinnikova, Deputy Director for Educational Activities, talked about UrFU's experience in creating a system of interaction with partners during the forum "The Future of Higher Education".

"Next year, the number of students studying in the project format will reach the level of 26 thousand people, although in 2020 there were 2,494 of them. This academic year, 71% of educational programs are implemented using design technologies, 2,702 students in orbit are engaged in 56 real projects of employers," Ovchinnikova noted.

As follows from the report of the deputy director, the number of partners has also increased many times: from 121 to 521.

Among the companies leading in attracting students to projects are representatives of the IT sector and the construction sector. At the same time, according to Ovchinnikova, the number of socially significant projects where students work on behalf of non-profit organizations or departments is growing every year.

Let us recall that project training is a special type of education implemented in UrFU, creating conditions for the organization and evaluation of student projects carried out by teams commissioned by enterprises and organizations of the real sector of the economy. The format, according to employers, allows students to go through all stages of the project life cycle: from initiation to reflection on its results.

Project training at UrFU involves at least six hours of independent work by the student team under the guidance of a curator, weekly consultations with experts and a review by the customer, as well as final defense before an independent commission.

The XII "The Future of Higher Education" forum was held in Moscow, organized by the rating agency RAEX-Analytica.
