5-100 Project Board decided to provide university with three-quarters of a milliard roubles

Within a year, Ural Federal University will receive 750 million rubles from the federal budget in order to attract the world's scientists and the restructure the educational process. Thus, the university will continue to participate in the project 5-100, program for increasing the competitiveness of the leading Russian universities among the world's leading research and educational centers.

The decision to allocate UrFU funds has been taken on March 21 by members of the 5-100 project board, the Russian and foreign representatives of the scientific and academic communities, government and recognized international researchers and experts in higher education.

Meeting of the Board was held in Tomsk. According to the results of the meeting all 15 universities would continue participating in the program.

Expert opinion about UrFU as one of the leaders of the project was confirmed by the report of the Vice-Rector for International Relations Maxim Khomyakov, communication between board members and the Rector of the University Victor Koksharov and chairman of the Supervisory Board of the university Dmitry Pumpyansky.

According to the participants of the meeting, UrFU shows growth in science and education, as well as successfully increase pace of internationalization. Thus, according to the number of publications indexed in databases Web of Science and Scopus, the university is ranked fourth in the country, the second among the project participants and the first among federal universities.

The rector of UrFU, Victor Koksharov noted that in the coming years, the university would pass the process of educational activity transformation: 500 subjects are already being taught online, next step is a transition to a modular system and a reduction in number of full-time students, due to increased requirements for their education progress and results.

 

The university will continue to attract the world's scientists: 12 international research laboratories have been already opened in UrFU and had earned credibility in many countries. For example, the famous immunologist and Nobel Prize winner, Rolf Zinkernagel accepted the invitation of the Rector to lead the research center.

Along with UrFU 750 million roubles will be allocated to Novosibirsk State University, St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and National Research Nuclear University MEPhI. 500 million rubles will go to Kazan and Far Eastern Federal Universities, Samara State Aerospace University and Nizhny Novgorod State University. Higher School of Economics, St. Petersburg State University of Information Technologies and two universities in Tomsk: TSU and TPU will receive one milliard roubles for the development. Fifteenth participant of the project 5-100, St. Petersburg University LETI will not receive additional financing this year.
