UrFU Will Award Academic Degrees Independently

Graduates will obtain diplomas in Russian and in English with a PhD status

Since 2018, Ural Federal University has been granted the right to award the degree “candidate of science”, which will also have the status of PhD. New form of the diploma will be both in Russian and English.

"Previously, the university did not have the right to award its own state degrees. Recently we have been given the right to award such degrees when the relevant conditions are met. We are interested in attracting international post-graduate students, as well as post-graduate students from other universities of Russia. The diploma will be absolutely equal in the degree that exists all over the world”, said Deputy Vice-Rector for Science Alexey Ivanov. 

In addition, the terms and technical procedures for processing documents became easier. After defense of the research and approval of UrFU Dissertation Council, it will not be necessary to wait for the decision of the Higher Attestation Commission.

At the moment, the structure of Ural Federal University includes 25 dissertation councils, 27 scientific schools and 15 research and educational centers in UrFU, including those supported by the Ural Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
