The Japan-Russian Leaders Program 2018 is being held at UrFU

UrFU is the host of the Japan-Russian Leaders Program 2018 taking place from September 16 to September 22. Almost 50 students from Japan and Russia participate in an intensive cultural and educational program: they take part in workshops, trainings, and forums. The participants also discuss the characteristics of modern society in Russia and Japan: trends, achievements and challenges. They talk about the transformation of the institution of family in modern society and exchange experiences on getting a dream job. Students will also take a rope course for the development of leadership qualities and visit the Yeltsin Center.

"Unfortunately, I don’t speak the Japanese language, but I've always been interested in the Land of the Rising Sun.  The theme of Japan is now quite popular in Russia in general. I heard that there is an opportunity to participate in the program and meet other students, so I was curious”, says Vladimir Gizullin, a political science student at the Ural Institute of Humanities, UrFU. “Students from Japan are quite open. I thought they would be more reserved, but it's very easy to talk to them even in my bad English. They don’t spaek English well, neither do I, but nobody is ashamed to talk. They are very fun to hang out with, very positive guys".

The Japan-Russian Leaders 2018 youth exchange program is held within the Japanese Fest in Ekaterinburg and the Year of Japan in Russia. The organizers of the program are the Information Cultural Center "Japan", the Regional Center for Patriotic Education, the Department of Youth Policy of the Sverdlovsk region, the "IMKA-Ural", GSEM UrFU.

"Students of the main university of Japan, Tokyo Daigaku, came to visit us this year. This is the second visit of the Japanese delegation. We will have a return visit: Russian students who took part in the program last year will go to Japan in October. On the Japanese side, the students are hosted by the Tokyo Youth Policy Center, a federal organization that deals with exchange programs for schoolchildren, students and young professionals”, explains the Director of the ICC "Japan" Elena Krainova. “The goal of the program is to introduce young specialists of the two countries, improve mutual understanding between our nations, and develop personal qualities through joint training and project activities”.
