UrFU representatives held 40 meetings with foreign universities

The Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) Annual Conference & Exhibition was held In Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), and Ural Federal University was among 300 educational institutions who took part in it.

At the exhibition, UrFU representatives held about 40 meetings with colleagues from foreign universities in Turkey, Malaysia, Korea, China, and Japan. They discussed academic exchange of students and research exchange of teachers. They also talked about working together on the Erasmus program with European universities. Representatives of the recruitment agencies visited the UrFU stand as well.

‘The chance to become leaders in the scientific and educational arena in the Asia-Pacific region will be given to the universities that can focus resources on creating breakthrough educational programs and research projects demanded by the local and global economy, as well as those who pay attention to attracting talent not only from their own country, but also from all over the world – students, teachers and scientists. Internationalization is one of the incentives for such universities, where one can find the commitment of the management team, close ties with employers, the widespread introduction of digital technology and the powerful political support of the country's government. The programs of academic excellence, which create the necessary basis for development, help them to advance in the world rankings. The example of China, Singapore, and Japan is impressive. In Russia, the project 5-100 managed to change the landscape of higher education and allowed leading universities to become one of the best in the world according to authoritative rating agencies over a short period of time,’ UrFU rector Victor Koksharov says.

He added that in recent years multi-disciplinary universities aimed at the development of the regional economy and concentrating the widest range of research areas for interdisciplinary research work, have become increasingly important. Among such institutions are Tsinghua University, Fudan University and the University of Hong Kong.

The universities participating in the Project 5-100 represented Russia at the past exhibition.

The APAIE exhibition & conference is the largest platform for the development of international relations in the field of higher education and the expansion of university partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region. According to Project 5-100, over the past six years, the number of partnership agreements and joint projects has increased, interest in Russian education and research activities on the part of foreign partners is growing, and there is a gradual integration of Russian universities into the educational and scientific space of the Asia-Pacific Region.

Joint programs with universities in the Asia-Pacific region are already being implemented at Ural Federal University, ITMO University, Lobachevsky University, South Ural State University, RUDN University, and others. Among the partners of Russian universities are universities in Australia, Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea.
