Sergei Ananiev: “The level of expertise of the University in the field of intellectual property is very high”

Uralvagonzavod representatives discussed the development of a comprehensive patent strategy

The recognized analytical capacity of the Ural Federal University in recent years has played a very important role in protecting the intellectual property of Uralvagonzavod enterprises. This was stated by the head of the Intellectual property department of the Concern, Sergey Ananyev, at the strategic session in Nizhny Tagil. Representatives of more than 10 companies from Ekaterinburg, Nizhny Tagil, Omsk, Tomsk, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Chelyabinsk and other cities participated in the session devoted to the development of patent strategies by enterprises belonging to Uralvagonzavod.

To date, over 20 specialists of the concern completed their training at UrFU. This year, six more companies have joined the professional development program.

“The level of expertise of UrFU employees in the field of intellectual property is very high, — said Sergei Ananiev. — It’s a truly impressive perfomance. Professional development plays a significant role in protection, promotion and communication of the information related to the registration and promotion of exclusive rights. Educational programs, created by the University with our participation are successfully used in enterprises. We see that the qualification of our specialists is really growing.”

Sergei Ananiev also expressed his special gratitude to Dmitri Shulgin — Head of the center for intellectual property of innovative infrastructure of UrFU, noting his personal contribution to the general complex program and concept of development in the field of intellectual property, introduced by Uralvagonzavod last year. This year, the project has expanded to the creation of patent profiles or strategies for key products, which will make it even more effective for the enterprise.

“Competition in the Russian technology market is becoming increasingly intense, — said Dmitri Shulgin. — At the same time, patents become the main tool of competition, which requires a strategic approach to the management of the patent portfolio. During the past year, in collaboration with Uralvagonzavod specialists, we developed the patent strategy for the Corporation. Now the UVZ extends this experience to all enterprises of the corporation. For us it is an invaluable contribution to the development of specialists in this field. It is also very useful for UrFU to accumulate experience in working with large industrial enterprises.”

The main objective of the strategic session was to develop a comprehensive patent strategy of Uralvagonzavod. According to Sergei Ananiev, this work affects all the tasks of strategic development of promising areas and products of the enterprise. We are talking about all the ways of protection against competitors, promotion of products to the market, marketing analysis and goals to capture or retain the relevant market conditions.

“Today, many international and Russian companies are seriously concerned about the protection of intellectual property, — says Sergei Ananiev. — With this struggle intensifying each year, our company is increasing the patent portfolio for key products to withstand the growing competition. This work will not only secure the development of Uralvagonzavod, but enable us to commercialize it, by involving more specific segments the market, to strengthen its presence in Russia and on the global scale.”
