Mongolian scientists researching for environmentally friendly technology for rare-earth elements production

University Rector met with number one graduate of the State [photo report]

Mongolia is one of the countries producing rare-earth metals that works constantly on improving the technology. Right now, the scientists confronted with the task to make it more environmentally friendly and their colleagues from the Ural Federal University can help them solve it.

The Rector, Viktor Koksharov, announced this today in Ulan-Bator during a meeting with honorary graduate No. 1, holder of an honorary doctorate from UrFU Zandaahuugiy Enkhbold. The head of the presidential administration of Mongolia received a delegation of the Ural Federal University on the eve of the forum of graduates of Russian universities.

Cooperation of Mongolian enterprises with UrFU, priority areas of scientific research, career support for graduates are a small part of the topics discussed during the meeting.

“Mr. Enkhbold is one of our most active graduates, not only keeping contact with his alma mater, but also doing everything to enhance cooperation between our countries,” noted Koksharov.

The honorary graduate received a memorable gift from Rector’s hands. It should be noted that Zandaahuugiyn Enkhbold was one of the founders of the Mongolia endowment fund, aimed for joint projects development and support of Mongolian students at UrFU.

Zandaahuugiin Enkhbold graduated from the Radio Engineering Department of the UPI (presently the Institute of Radio Electronics and Information Technologies of UrFU) in 1989 with a degree in Automation and Telemechanics Engineering. After that, he returned to his homeland and made an impressive career, going from a mechanic of the Ulan-Bator electric company to one of the highest leaders of the state. From 2012 to 2016, Zandaahuugiin Enkhbold served as chairman of the Great State Khural of Mongolia.

Since graduation, Enkhbold did not lose ties with alma mater, and in 2010 he came to Ekaterinburg to celebrate the 90^th anniversary of the Ural State Technical University-UPI. He first visited UrFU on September 24, 2015, when he was awarded the honorary doctorate of the university for his personal contribution for strengthening scientific and academic ties between research and educational institutions of Mongolia and Russia, and developing cooperation in the fields of culture and economy of the two countries.

Currently, there are 51 students from Mongolia in UrFU. Over the past years, the university has prepared about 2,000 graduates from this country. In April 2013, the Mongolian Alumni Association was established in Ulan Bator.

The forum of Graduates of Russian and Soviet Universities and Youth in Ulan Bator organized by Ural Federal University is dedicated to the 80^th anniversary of the victory of Soviet and Mongolian troops over the Japanese Kwantung army on the Khalkhin-Gol River. The event takes place in the Mongolian capital on September 2-4.  The Forum is also supported by the Mongolian Association of Graduates of Russian and Soviet Educational Institutions of the Moscow Aviation University of Higher Education, the Graduate Project Development Fund of the Ural Federal University and the graduates of UPI, Ural State University and UrFU, a representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in Mongolia.
