Viktor Koksharov met the President of Azerbaijan

The official delegation led by the governor of the Sverdlovsk region visited Baku

The President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the Rector of the Ural Federal University Viktor Koksharov held a meeting in Baku, in the course of the visit of the official delegation led by the governor of the Sverdlovsk region, Evgeny Kuyvashev. Several hours before that, the head of the university signed the documents on cooperation with the Baku State University and the Azerbaijan University of Languages.

“We have a long-standing relationship with the Azerbaijan University of Languages,” noted Koksharov. A center of Azerbaijani studies based in UrFU supports all the initiatives on bilateral cooperation. Our students are actively involved in the work of the Heydar Aliyev Center for Multiculturalism: in winter and summer schools in Baku, we also receive Azerbaijani students participating in exchange programs. The Head of the University, Kamil Abdullaev, is a well-known cultural figure, writer, ex-state cultural adviser, and our honorary doctor.”

At the same time, as the rector noted in a meeting with his colleague Elchin Babayev, we are just at the outset of the cooperation with Baku State University. 

"This is our first step towards each other,” emphasized Koksharov. Our researchers have common interests in the fields of natural sciences, mathematics, and humanities. For example, this university has an excellent journal in applied mathematics. UrFU institutes are also ready to accept students from this university for double degree programs, exchange programs, for winter and summer schools.”

According to the rector, currently there are nine students from Azerbaijan studying at the Ural Federal University, but this number is going to be increased.

“The first results of the visit to Azerbaijan are certainly encouraging,” Koksharov added. Both the Governor Evgeny Kuyvashev and the President Ilham Aliyev at the meeting stressed the importance of the cultural exchange. The better we understand each other – the more young people will delve into the particular culture, language, economic development, social sphere of another country, the more solid foundation we will build for all other areas of interaction between the two countries.”

Among the general topics of discussion were the upcoming Summer Universiade in Ekaterinburg in 2023 and the perspectives of participation of Azerbaijani universities and enterprises into the inter-regional Ural Scientific and Educational Center created on the initiative of the Ural Federal University. The latter include carrying out research and development projects in collaboration with leading world research centers, development of educational institutions participating in REC, launching international academic mobility programs for teachers and students.
