Project 5-100 Outcomes: Ural Federal University Sufficiently Improved its Positions in the World's Most Prestigious Ranking

The University succeeded in research ratings, the growing number of international students and brand recognition

The position of the Ural Federal University among the Russian universities represented in The Times Higher Education World University Rankings — 2020 has improved again. The Ural region leading University rose from the 18th position, which it held a year earlier, and now ranks 16^th in the country. At the same time, competition has also increased – there are 138 new participants in the ranking, including four from Russia.

The overall position of Ural Federal University has not changed since last year – the University retained its place in the group 1001+. Experts emphasized the indicators of the University related to educational activities, science and interaction with employers.

"The current rating reflects the 2017 situation," says Ural Federal University Rector Viktor Koksharov. "We note the growth of positions due to the progressive development of the University in the Russian Academic Excellence Project (Project 5-100) on the majority of key indicators, including the growth of research and development work commissioned by industrial enterprises by a quarter, an increase in the share of foreign students to more than 10.5% at the end of 2017 and a significant increase in the research reputation of the University – one-and-a-half times as compared to the previous rating."

Nowadays, the University is focused on the contribution to the development of national projects, in particular, the National Project "Science" is of great importance. Ural Federal University initiated the creation of the world-class interregional Ural Scientific and Educational Center "Advanced industrial technologies, new materials and energy" – it was launched by the heads of the Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk and Kurgan regions, who signed the corresponding agreement at the exhibition and innovation forum "Innoprom" in Ekaterinburg.
