Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region Yevgeny Kuyvashev reassured that it is advisable to build the 2023 FISU World University Games Village in Yekaterinburg while taking into account the needs of the largest university in the region. Governor Kuyvashev is also a member of the Supervisory Board of the Ural Federal University. Kuyvashev stated his position at a meeting with the Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov.

“We turned to Valery Nikolaevich for assistance in the construction of three educational buildings for UrFU in Novokoltsovsky district,” the governor said. “The idea is that these buildings and modern housing should in the future become the legacy of the World University Games for the largest university in the region.”

The head of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia supported the idea of ​​an integrated approach to solving the problem - to build residential buildings along with educational ones, proposed by a member of the supervisory board Evgeny Kuyvashev and rector of UrFU Victor Koksharov.

“Yekaterinburg is an attractive city for students. The Ministry finds interest in creating modern and comfortable student residencies for UrFU and other Ural universities. The development of infrastructure for universities is a prerequisite for attracting talented students. The Village, transferred to the university after the Games, will contribute to the achievement of the goals of the national projects 'Science' and 'Education'. Since the Village involves not only residential premises, it I find logic in further considering the construction of educational and laboratory buildings. The possibility of financing requires some additional thorough study,” said Valery Falkov.

Now the region’s leadership will prepare the documentation to include the projects in the federal target programs.

“We are certainly interested in having a residential complex and the infrastructure necessary for study and research on site, as it stressed by the tasks of the national project 'Science' and 'Education'. In particular, the national projects' goals include creating a world-class science and education center, exporting of Russian education, attracting talented foreign students and tutors,” Rector Koksharov emphasized.

The meeting of the delegation of the Sverdlovsk region with the Minister of Science and Higher Education took place in Moscow on Monday.
