Young scientist's water project aims to create cheap nanomaterials that determine the toxicity of water

The Ural Interregional Research and Education Center (REC) will support the project "Nanochemistry: for the clean water of Russians" by the young scientist Alexander Petrov. The project is aimed at creating cheap nanomaterials that will help analyze water for toxicity, TASS news agency reported.

Within the framework of the project, it is proposed to develop a new method for obtaining and using carbon quantum dots - a new class of nanomaterials for analyzing the content of at least two types of heavy metal ions in water. It is planned to analyze water samples in different regions of the country.

“These points are interesting because they can be synthesized from food using a conventional microwave. At the same time, they are easier to use than traditional methods of analysis, are much cheaper, and can also detect lower concentrations of heavy metals,” said Alexander Petrov.

The project developer presented it at the UTRO-2020 forum, which took place in July. Young scientists presented at the forum promising scientific projects that may be in demand in the newly created Ural REC.

On National Projects - REC

Created in July 2019, Ural Interregional REC is the integration agreement was then signed by the first 15 of its participants. A working group for the development of REC, headed by the Chairman of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a member of the Supervisory Board of the Ural Federal University, Academician Valery Charushin, as well as a management team of the center, assembled on the basis of UrFU together with the South Ural and Kurgan State Universities, has been created. The Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Urals Federal District Nikolai Tsukanov headed the Supervisory Board of the REC, which included the governors of three regions.
