Ural Optical and Mechanical Plant Presented a Prototype of a New Defibrillator

Ural Optical and Mechanical Plant (UOMZ) named after E.S. Yalamov presented a new defibrillator model designed for hospitals, intensive care units, cardiac surgery and ambulances. Representatives of the plant and Ural Federal University told Sergey Perestoronin, Minister of Industry and Science of the Sverdlovsk region, about the advantages of the product.

The new defibrillator can work both in automatic and manual modes. The device analyzes the patient's condition by identifying and taking into account a number of parameters (pulse, ECG, blood oxygen level) before the shock is delivered and adjusts the current intensity depending on these parameters. In addition, the ergonomics and ease of use have been significantly improved.

Part of the work on the project is carried out by UrFU, including the development of electronics, design documentation, and built-in algorithms. It is expected that the first batch of defibrillators will be produced by the plant this year.

"Once again I was convinced that UOMZ sounds as proud as UrFU. Here they understand in which direction we need to move in order to get the result. The defibrillator is a smart device, which allows to exclude the doctor's mistakes and not to damage the patient's health. We discussed the details of the project and its prospects with representatives of the plant and the university. The work is going on continuously, and the device may get several more additional functions in the next year. The government of the Sverdlovsk region will support the plant in the implementation of this project," said Sergey Perestoronin.

The plant is a member of the world-class Ural Interregional Research and Education Center "Advanced Manufacturing Technologies and Materials". In May 2021 the plant was among the winners of the Sverdlovsk region government tender and got the right to compensate a part of expenses to be incurred by research and development activities of the center participants. The contest was won by five companies, that will receive from 5 to 25 million rubles.
