The new rating takes into account the contribution made to solving social and economic problems

The Ural Federal University took the fifth place in the new ranking, which evaluates the contribution of higher education institutions to the social and economic development of Russian regions. UrFU took the third place among the participants of the Priority 2030 program. Such a high ranking underlines the special role of the university in the development of the Sverdlovsk region.

The rating is developed by the staff of the Kazan Federal University, which in the course of the study ranked 679 universities. Its peculiarity is to take into account specifics of development of regional universities, their contribution to solution of social and economic problems of the territory of presence. The authors note that the proposed rating, unlike the existing system of rankings, allows to analyze the entire list of universities in Russia. It also evaluates regional universities regardless of their positioning and possibility to participate in the global competition.

It also takes into account the contribution of universities to regional performance indicators, which is particularly relevant in the new economic environment. It assesses a university's role in a region's success based on an evaluation of the institution's and the region's indicators. This analysis is not tied to foreign databases, but is based on openly verifiable statistical data. In particular, the analysis of the higher education institutions participating in the Priority 2030 project in the direction of "Territorial and (or) Sectoral Leadership" was carried out in order to assess their contribution to the social and economic development of the territories within the framework of this project.

The methodology of the rating includes the evaluation of universities in the context of seven blocks: "Education", "Science and Innovation", "Reputation Economy", "Social Issues", "Infrastructure Contribution", "Digital Economy" and "Personnel Potential". The method was based on multidimensional statistical comparisons based on independent open sources, including data from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Federal State Statistics Service, the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation.
